About the Puja

Tarpan Puja is a sacred ritual performed in Sanatan Hindu tradition to offer water and prayers to ancestors (Pitru), deities, and sages with devotion and respect. The word Tarpan is derived from the Sanskrit word “Tripti”, meaning satisfaction or fulfillment. Through this ritual, offerings of water mixed with sesame seeds, barley, and sacred mantras are made to satisfy the departed souls.

Tarpan is commonly performed during Pitru Paksha, Amavasya (new moon days), eclipses, and other spiritually significant occasions. It is believed that when descendants perform Tarpan with faith and sincerity, the ancestors become satisfied and bless the family with protection, prosperity, and harmony.

The ritual is usually performed near a sacred river, water body, or at home under the guidance of a priest while chanting Vedic mantras. Tarpan Puja strengthens the spiritual connection between generations and honors the lineage of the family.
